International Furniture Design Competition Asahikawa [IFDA]
IFDA (International Furniture Design Competition Asahikawa) is an international furniture design competition established in 1990 and held every three years in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, one of Japan's leading furniture production regions. Over the course of its first twelve editions, the competition has received 10,084 entries from 79 countries and regions, with more than 50 prize-winning designs commercialized by Asahikawa manufacturers.
Eligibility: Newly created, previously unpublished wooden furniture designs, with wood as the primary material
Entry fee: JPY 10,000 per entry
Silver Leaf Award: JPY 500,000
Bronze Leaf Award: JPY 300,000
Special Jury Prize: JPY 100,000 (4 winners)

The 2027 theme, "Origin," invites designers to return to the essence of furniture by exploring its relationship with materials, craftsmanship, technology, and design. Entries should envision new possibilities for wooden furniture that can be presented to the world as Asahikawa Furniture.
