PLUTO is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Designer to join our team in Ninove.

PLUTO is a Belgian womenswear brand positioned at the intersection of luxury sleepwear, comfortable homewear, and elegant holiday & resort wear. Our collections are sold through premium multi-brand retailers across Europe and in selected international markets.

One of PLUTO’s key strengths is our own atelier in Ninove. Keeping design, collection development, and the atelier close together allows us to translate ideas quickly into prototypes, samples, and adjustments. Craftsmanship, quality, fit, and product knowledge remain central throughout the entire development process.

Your role

As Designer, you will help us keep a strong and established sleepwear brand relevant and desirable season after season.

At the same time, you will play an important role in PLUTO’s continued growth within holidaywear/resort and comfort homewear. You will extend our clear sleepwear positioning into these new segments without losing the brand’s distinctive identity and coherence.

You will work closely with the Managing Director, who defines the strategic and commercial direction within which the collections are developed. Within this framework, you will bring creativity, innovation, and cohesion.

PLUTO is a small SME with eight permanent employees. This means short communication lines, quick decisions, and broad responsibilities. Everyone works closely together and takes on tasks that may sometimes extend beyond a strictly defined job description.

This compact structure also requires a pragmatic mindset. Creative ambitions, remuneration expectations, and collection development budgets must fit the realities of a small organisation.

What will you do?

• Conduct relevant and creative research into themes, colours, fabrics, laces, and accessories.
• Follow trends and developments in womenswear and use your knowledge of fashion history to advise on silhouettes, finishes, and material choices.
• Develop original design concepts and sketches that express PLUTO’s creative vision.
• Translate individual designs into one cohesive seasonal collection.
• Keep PLUTO’s sleepwear offering relevant and help build coherent collections within holidaywear/resort and comfort homewear.
• Work hands-on with our own atelier and Collection Development on prototypes, fittings, adjustments, quality, and technical feasibility.
• Prepare clear design handovers and work with the team to monitor the timing and quality of the development process.
• Balance creativity with commercial requirements, price points, and available collection development budgets.

Who will you work with?

You will work closely with:

• the Managing Director, who determines the strategic and commercial direction;
• our own atelier and Collection Development for the direct follow-up of prototypes, fittings, and deadlines;
• freelance designers and other creative partners to translate all ideas into one coherent collection;
• suppliers of fabrics, laces, and accessories;
• the Sales Team to build a balanced and commercially viable collection across the relevant categories and price points.

Who are we looking for?

• You are highly creative, intelligent, and forward-thinking, with a strong interest in fashion, lifestyle, design, art, and innovation.
• You feel connected to PLUTO’s aesthetic: Honest, Simple, Pure and Wearable.
• You have a genuine interest in selecting and developing sensual, tactile, and high-quality materials, with particular attention to jersey.
• You have completed a relevant creative education and bring at least ten years of fashion design experience.
• You understand the entire design and collection development process and work accurately according to deadlines and critical paths.
• You communicate clearly and enjoy collaborating within a small, dynamic, and hands-on team.
• You combine creative ambition with pragmatism and are comfortable working within realistic budgets.
• You have an excellent command of spoken and written English. As almost the entire PLUTO team is Dutch-speaking, a good understanding of Dutch is essential. Knowledge of French is an asset.

Practical arrangements

The collaboration can be structured as a permanent employment contract or on a freelance basis. The specific working arrangement is open for discussion.

Regular presence at PLUTO in Ninove is important. Close contact with the Managing Director, Collection Development, and our atelier is essential to the way we develop our collections.
