Internship: Fashion History Researcher
Internship: Fashion History Researcher (IM)PERMANENT

(IM)PERMANENT digitises private fashion archives to create a searchable, shared knowledge base where designers, students and researchers can study garment construction, materials and techniques without traveling to an archive.
Through 3D digitization and computer vision, we make knowledge held in private collections accessible to a wider audience. We work with a growing network of prominent collectors, archivists and fashion institutions.
We're looking for a Fashion History Research Intern to help us research and document the garments entering our digital archive, where you 'll get hands-on access to exceptional private collections and institutional archives, working with garments rarely available to students and researchers. Your research will directly shape a growing digital resource used by designers, students and researchers internationally. You'll work closely with the founders and contribute to developing new ways of documenting, understanding and sharing fashion history.
What you'll do
Research and document garments, including dating, attribution, provenance, construction techniques and materials.
Help develop and maintain consistent metadata standards across the collection.
Work alongside our 3D capture team to ensure each digitized garment is accompanied by accurate historical and technical information.
Evaluate sources, question assumptions and distinguish verified information from uncertain attributions.
Build the reference data used to train and evaluate our AI-powered garment analysis.
Help shape how garments and their histories are represented and connected on the platform.
Who you are
Studying or recently graduated in fashion history, fashion studies, museum studies, textile history, conservation or a related field.
Have a strong understanding of fashion history and an interest in garment construction.
An independent thinker, curious and comfortable investigating unfamiliar objects, asking questions and developing your own research approach.
Methodical and detail-oriented, with a critical approach to sources and an ability to recognize uncertainty.
Interested in what digital technologies can bring to archival research.
Fluent in English; Dutch or French is a plus.
To apply
Send your CV and a short piece of writing about one garment of your choice to ofir.hanoch@im-permanent.com .
We're interested in how you approach a garment, the questions you ask and what you discover. Above all, we value curiosity and independent thinking.
